Između bolesti i presude: Hoće li sud popustiti pred apelima porodice Ratka Mladića?
Ponovo se u javnosti otvara pitanje koje izaziva snažne emocije i duboke društvene podjele: kako postupati u slučaju Ratka Mladića, pravosnažno osuđenog na doživotni zatvor za najteže zločine počinjene u Evropi nakon Drugog svjetskog rata. Njegova porodica ponovo apeluje na humanost, pozivajući se na teško zdravstveno stanje i duboku starost, dok sud u Haag ostaje čvrst i nepopustljiv u svojim odlukama.
Mladić se već godinama nalazi u pritvorskoj jedinici Ujedinjenih nacija u Scheveningen. Uhapšen je 2011. godine nakon višegodišnjeg skrivanja, a deset godina kasnije izrečena mu je konačna presuda – doživotni zatvor. Od tada, članovi njegove porodice u više navrata pokušavaju ishoditi njegovo puštanje ili barem prebacivanje na liječenje u Srbiju, uz obrazloženje da mu je zdravstveno stanje ozbiljno narušeno i da mu je potrebna stalna medicinska njega.
Njegov sin Darko u javnim istupima govori o srčanim problemima, plućnim komplikacijama, gubicima svijesti i povredama nastalim usljed padova. Tvrdi i da Mladić ima rane od dugotrajnog ležanja te da je praktično nepokretan. Porodica insistira da ne traži slobodu, već, kako navode, „ljudskije uslove“ i mogućnost da posljednje dane provede bliže porodici.
Međutim, sudske instance u Hagu uporno odbijaju sve podnesene zahtjeve. Odbijena je čak i molba da privremeno prisustvuje sahrani člana porodice. Sudije u obrazloženjima podsjećaju da je riječ o osobi osuđenoj za genocid, zločine protiv čovječnosti i ratne zločine, te da je godinama izbjegavala suočavanje s pravdom. Po njihovom tumačenju, eventualno humanitarno puštanje u ovom slučaju značilo bi faktičko poništavanje izrečene kazne.
Reakcije javnosti ostaju snažne i podijeljene. Dok manji dio građana iskazuje sažaljenje zbog starosti i bolesti, većina podsjeća da Mladić nikada nije pokazao ni trunku empatije prema svojim žrtvama. Posebno se ističu zločini u Srebrenica, gdje su hiljade ljudi sistematski ubijene, kao i višegodišnja opsada Sarajevo, tokom koje su civili, uključujući djecu, svakodnevno bili izloženi granatiranju i snajperskoj vatri.
U Hagu, očito, ne žele ponavljati presedane iz ranijih slučajeva, kada su pojedini osuđeni ratni zločinci puštani zbog navodnog terminalnog zdravstvenog stanja, a potom nastavljali političko ili javno djelovanje. Poruka suda, za sada, ostaje jasna: presuda nije simbolična, već konačna i izvršna.
Prema dostupnim odlukama Međunarodni rezidualni mehanizam za krivične sudove, bez obzira na godine i zdravstveno stanje, Ratko Mladić će, po svemu sudeći, ostatak života provesti iza rešetaka.
